Middle/senior-weight web designer

As a key part of a fast-paced, top-5 rated UK digital agency, Onespacemedia’s creative team design industry-leading, responsive websites and applications for wide range of clients spread across a number of market sectors. Working closely with the development team, our designers champion and apply modern, responsive creative and UX techniques to deliver a first-in-class digital experience throughout all of our creative output.

As well as being digital experts, our designers also work in a number of print disciplines, helping our clients leverage creative technology to help to build and represent outstanding brands.

As a senior designer you will be expected to translate business requirements into industry-leading, brand and sector-appropriate design work and user experiences. You will be a confident and experienced communicator and comfortable presenting your work and providing rationale for your design decisions to clients. The successful candidate will be a master of grid theory, typography, information architecture, navigation, colour balance, tension and have a deep understanding of how design translates to usability and action online.

You will be up to date with current trends, have an understanding of development practices and content management systems and be able to demonstrate a long track record of successful digital design projects.

Responsibilities

Creative delivery

Work with the commercial team to create and evolve design concepts for websites, software applications and digital and print campaigns across a wide number of commercial sectors.


  • Create high-quality designs that work in line with a project’s commercial priorities and satisfy a project’s criteria for success.

  • Take responsibility for ensuring that any UI/UX patterns work in the interest of a client’s product, using research and rationale to drive production.

  • Provide guidance, feedback and QA on design deliverables after development, to help protect an original design vision through to production.

  • Champion and implement industry-leading design and usability practices to ensure a high-quality deliverable on every project.

Project delivery

  • Take responsibility for supporting the development process with assets, modifications and guidance in line with the original vision.

  • Work directly with clients where required throughout the project - with the aim to defend the project’s design and commercial goals.

  • Help drive site build-out where required, ensuring that conceptual design work stands up to rigorous content requirements in production.

  • Inspire and support junior designers to meet challenging project deadlines.

  • Understand the fine balance between fighting to protect a design direction, and when to execute a client request.


Skills

Primary

  • Naturally creative, with a track-record for creating and delivering excellent design concepts on-time and on-budget.

  • Expert commercial experience with the Adobe Creative Cloud suite (primarily, Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator) and Sketch.

  • Experience designing a range of digital products - from simple, ‘brochureware’ style websites through to complex UI/UX undertakings - such as responsive software applications.

  • Experience running visual branding rounds, marketing material and logos, sometimes to challenging timescales.

  • Experienced and comfortable with concept creation and ideation - the ability to swiftly help clients bring their initial vision into a fully fledged commercial concept.

  • An excellent verbal and written communicator, confident enough to deal directly with clients where necessary.

  • Experience working in a CMS environment with WYSIWYG skills.

  • A good technology generalist, with a good understanding of mobile hardware platforms.


Secondary

  • Competence with online prototyping tools such as InVision.

  • Project and relationship management skills - exposure navigating the sensitivities of complex, multi-stakeholder organisations and processes.

  • Experience with photography, image processing and video formats.

  • Experience with corporate presentation design and delivery, across industry standard tools such as PowerPoint and Keynote.

  • Competence with Adobe After Effects and Lightroom.

  • Experience working with animation a bonus.

Qualifications

  • 5-8+ years commercial (and preferably, agency) experience in a middleweight or senior digital/product design position.

  • Creative, technical or multimedia degree preferable (Graphic Design, Multimedia Production or another artistic or technology discipline) - but not compulsory.
