An African experience of a lifetime

Africa Uncovered is a luxury travel company specialising in tailored safaris to South and East Africa. With more than 20 years experience in African travel, Africa Uncovered combine their passion for Africa with their extensive local knowledge to deliver the ultimate in safari holiday experiences.

Africa Uncovered’s motivation to build their business, extend their online capability and support their growing user base of tablet and mobile users was at the forefront of the design and development effort. Our track record in supporting online business and building for multiple platforms were central to driving the project - combining Africa Uncovered’s market expertise, with our vision for an alluring, enticing and vibrant digital presence.

High definition assets

Luxury holiday packages are a high-cost pursuit - and it was key to the project’s success that the site’s multimedia assets reflected the quality of the product being sold. We were driven to ensure that the quality and vibrancy of the assets invoked an emotional user experience - turning visitors into customers. The use of high resolution assets and their placement have resulted in a striking, vibrant representation of Africa Uncovered’s business, products and ethos.

Custom mapping tools

Using the powerful Google Maps API, we developed a user friendly custom mapping system that displays each of the locations that Africa Uncovered serves geographically. Developing the feature adds an extra layer of functionality - a quick, visual way for a user to view regional information.

Fully responsive design

After analysing Africa Uncovered usage statistics, we discovered that more than 40% of the site’s users were using tablet PCs. With such a high percentage of users accessing the site on smaller screens, an early design decision was taken to ensure that the site was built to be fully responsive. This decision was to ensure that the layout of the site’s content is optimised for the device that it is being accessed on - enhancing the user’s experience, with the aim of increasing sales conversion.

Building an identity

Creating a brand identity that invokes an emotional customer response is a deeply involved process. We worked with Africa Uncovered to unearth the message that they wanted to communicate to their customers - while positioning them perfectly within a competitive tourism market. Supporting the development of the brand is a website that uses beautiful assets to further bolster Africa Uncovered's excellent reputation.

Fully customised content management

The CMS that drives the Africa Uncovered website is one of the most extensive, flexible builds that we've taken on. With a level of granularity that allows website and content managers to manage the content spread across the site at an extremely low level, the back end is a flexible, powerful answer to content management that requires very little technical knowledge to operate.
