Vital research programme tackling climate change gets digital overhaul

Onespacemedia has launched a new digital platform for the Arctic Research Programme, a five-year project addressing scientific uncertainties in the Arctic.

The Arctic Research Programme (ARP) is a five-year project funded by the Natural Environment Research Council and coordinated by the British Antarctic Survey to address scientific uncertainties in the Arctic and facilitate predictions on climate change in the region and beyond.

On average, the temperature on the Earth’s surface has increased by 0.6°C over the last two hundred years and in the Arctic the rate of change outstrips the trend. The Arctic is therefore a key area of focus for global environmental change and the ARP is working to understand the drivers and scale this change.

The team at Onespacemedia has worked closely with the ARP team to create a website which delivers an immersive user experience, delivering vital information through engaging multimedia content and featuring stunning photography to illustrate research projects. Utilising the latest digital techniques the site will also provide real-time updates on projects and other new content to ensure that visitors revisit the site time and time again.

A state-of-the-art content management system empowers ARP staff to create and manage website content without any technical knowledge or experience of web design or development.

Dr Cynan Ellis-Evans, science co-ordinator for the ARP, said: “We are delighted with the new site. We wanted something that would showcase the science, explain what our projects are achieving and enable our scientists to interact more easily with the public, stakeholders and each other. The depth of the site is very gratifying to see and I am sure it will prove to be a vital tool for the programme and our team.”
