Celebrating digital innovation at Anglia Ruskin University

Onespacemedia supports the Anglia Ruskin University end of year degree show with an award for Digital Media innovation.

Onespacemedia has lent support to the Anglia Ruskin University end-of-year degree show, judging and presenting the Digital Media Award for the third consecutive year.

The team at Onespacemedia has an ongoing partnership with ARU, helping to bridge the skills gap between degree courses and the workplace with a number a of employability initiatives - supporting learning while inspiring students as they begin their design careers.

The Digital Media Award, presented by Onespacemedia’s Creative Director, James Dellar, is awarded to the student whose work demonstrates the best in digital innovation. This year’s award went to Beatriz Bernadino for her application, ‘VRoom’ - an immersive virtual reality experience for meditation. This was Beatriz’ first VR project, which meant teaching herself to code as well as learning about a new digital platform.

Two Onespacemedia staff members also showed their work at the event: Junior Designer, Flossie Aylin and Intern Klara Block. Flossie’s exhibition depicts a potential film adaptation of Naomi Alderman’s ‘The Power’, a dystopian novel that explores the idea of a matriarchal society. Klara’s work is focused on conveying the values of Scandinavian style through work that examines, analyses and applies its characteristics.

James Dellar said “The quality of work produced by Cambridge School of Art students is always very high and this year is no exception. Beatriz had a vision and didn’t let the fact that she was working with a new platform and didn’t know how to code get in her way! The project is well-executed and was turned around in a matter of weeks. She’s a very deserving winner.”

Beatriz commented, “I am very pleased and grateful to accept the Digital Media award 2018 from Onespacemedia - this is definitely an excellent morale-booster that will encourage me to continue doing my best work.”

Beatriz’ app is available for free from Google Play. The degree show exhibition is running until 16 June at ARU’s Cambridge campus in the Ruskin Gallery.
